The Quality of Life survey project is a partnership between nine New Zealand councils including Auckland Council.
The primary objective of the survey is to measure residents’ perceptions of aspects of living in larger urban areas in New Zealand. It measures perceptions over several domains related to quality of life, including:
- Overall quality of life
- Environment (built and natural)
- Housing
- Public transport
- Health and wellbeing
- Crime, safety and local issues
- Community, culture and social networks
- Climate change
- Employment and economic wellbeing
- Council decision-making processes.
The survey was originally established in response to growing pressures on urban communities, concern about the impacts of urbanisation and the effect of this on residents' wellbeing. Participating councils use the results to help inform their policy and planning responses to population growth and change.
In 2024 a total of 6994 respondents aged 18 years and over completed the survey online. The survey took place from April to July 2024 and was administered by Ipsos, an independent research company.
Quality of Life survey results from 2003 onwards are available on the Quality of Life website: http://www.qualityoflifeproject.govt.nz
