The Mangere Housing Survey was conducted by The Salvation Army Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit in the South Auckland neighbourhood of Harania West in June and July 2011. The survey attempted to contact over 1000 households within the survey area to ask them about their housing and in particular about how big their houses were and how many people lived in them. The purpose of this survey was to examine the extent of overcrowding in this neighbourhood as a representative neighbourhood in South Auckland. The research interest in having an insight into overcrowding was to gain an understanding of the wider Auckland housing market given recent trends of slowing house building and a growing housing shortage.
