The broad 'Asian' ethnic group is a growing part of the New Zealand population and workforce. Understanding the contribution that this group brings to the future workforce will help support the government's economic growth agenda, by ensuring New Zealand has the skills it needs. This report mines data from the 2006 Census to explore in more detail the ethnic, demographic, education and employment characteristics of this group, with a focus on those in the workforce. While this report is national in scope, it is pertinent to those interested in Auckland's economic future, as two thirds of the broad 'Asian' population live in the Auckland region.
