Presenting results from the 2006 Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey (ALL) for the Auckland region, this paper traces patterns of literacy and numeracy skills across the regional population, and makes an impassioned argument as to why literacy is "everybody's business". The report outlines what is currently being done in the region to address the issue, and provides a clear call to action for the new Auckland Council, recommending that numeracy becomes a flagship social action project for the city. The paper was prepared on behalf of COMET, a charitable trust established by Manukau City Council.
