Understanding the location and nature of publicly owned land forms an important information source for the management of land, and the decision-making process for both central and local government. This report uses information from Land Information New Zealand to create a classification system for public ownership of land in Auckland. There is approximately 93,000 hectares of publicly owned land in Auckland.
The research is a response to the Productivity Commission's recommendation that a comprehensive inventory of publicly owned land be developed.
