This report provides further detail on strategy and procedures to be used with the suspended sediment monitoring plan for the Auckland Region that is set out in Auckland Regional Council report TR2009/125. With this plan, the general strategy is to:

  • Use automatic samplers operated in flow-proportional, compositing mode at all sites in the sediment monitoring network.
  • Focus on measuring the suspended sediment flux during all storm runoff events.
  • Use manual sampling only to relate the auto-sampled results to the sediment flux passing the full cross-section and to collect samples for particle-size analysis.
  • Not use turbidity monitoring.
