2016The Auckland Council’s Research and Evaluation Unit (RIMU) conducts biannual surveying of beach profiles to monitor beach change over time. This work is undertaken for a range of purposes such as, state of the environment reporting, providing public awareness and informing coastal managers on beach changes within the region, and consent requirements. Detailed beach profile analysis of 12 beaches is presented, with beaches categorised into four groups (west coast, open east coast, inner Hauraki Gulf, and Firth of Thames). These groups represent distinct wave climates around Auckland. This analysis evaluates beach state and trends by assessing variations in beach envelope, beach volume, and beach width (measurable beach change parameters).
